A Conversation with Becky Downham
As a Registered Nurse, what are your duties at the Family Health Clinic (FHC)?
My current job responsibility is working in triage out of the Delphi office. Many staff refer to this as “sitting on the throne ” as this is where the action happens! I am directly responsible for receiving all triage calls for the four clinics. A very busy job indeed!
I work with the Call Center to assist with scheduling, call patients with results when I can be helpful to Joyce, and provide education as needed. To sum it up….all calls that come into the clinic for a nurse are sent to my phone.
What drew you to the FHC originally? And how has the FHC changed since?
While working in Kokomo, I saw Suzan Overholser quite frequently as we were in the same building. She informed me the clinic was looking to hire an RN. I applied for this position as it was closer for me since I live in Carroll County and then interviewed with both Suzan and Jim.
The clinic has grown by leaps and bounds since I started here. I am very excited to be a part of this growth and watch as our healthcare expands even farther to reach those who need us.
What is your favorite part about working for the Family Health Clinic?
I feel this position is a calling for me. I never refer to it as “my job ” because it is more than a paycheck. Providing care to those in need is a wonderful experience and in my mind what we are here for. It’s a true blessing.
Why do you think having health services like the ones the FHC provides is important in the local community?
Being able to provide healthcare in a rural setting is often an oversight in many communities. Many often lack not only the finances but also resources such as transportation to obtain healthcare. I feel we have a great responsibility to those around us to reach out and provide that assistance. Many of our patients rely on our clinics to fill that gap in their healthcare.
Is there anything else you’d like to add?
May we all be reminded that our patients are the reason we are here… 🙂
