A Conversation with Megan

What drew you to the Family Health Clinic?

Reading about how the clinics were developed and the purpose of serving communities in need and providing access to care is what drew me here.  I knew one of the Advanced Practice Nurses prior to my employment here and she spoke highly of the work and organization.  I was looking for family practice in a small community setting and the clinics were exactly where I wanted to be.

What are you most looking forward to about working at the Family Health Clinic?

I am most looking forward to getting to know the patients and getting the chance to work on health maintenance and the prevention of disease.  All those years in the emergency department of caring for patients who were in crisis mode did not allow for education and planning on maintaining wellness.

Why do you think having health services, such as those the Family Health Clinic provides, is important in the local community?

Accessing primary care is difficult for many community members.  Many community members have expressed the inability to obtain an appointment in a timely manner or to find somewhere to establish primary care.  I believe that primary care is essential to preventing health disparities and the work being done by the clinics is essential in preventing negative health outcomes. I feel blessed to be a part of the great work being done here.

What made you choose Family Nurse Practitioner as your specialty?

Family is my specialty because I always wanted to be able to care for families as a whole unit and get to know them.  I have a lot of experience in working with those who have been a victim of crime, child abuse, domestic violence, and sexual assault, trauma-informed care is essential in family practice because exposure to violence can adversely impact health.

Is there anything else you want to share about yourself?

I am married, we have three adult children and one child still at home, and our first grandchild.  I enjoy spending time with my family more than anything.  My husband and I enjoy the outdoors, biking, hiking, and running.  We spend a lot of time following our daughter to gymnastics meets and volleyball games and love every second of it.  We live in Monticello, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to provide care to the community that I live in and the surrounding areas.

Megan, we are so happy to have you as part of the Family Health Clinic team!
