A Conversation with Missy
As a School-Based Behavioral Health Specialist, what are your duties at the Family Health Clinic?
I will be providing school-based individual and family therapy services in both Delphi and Carroll elementary schools. I will work closely with families and the child’s teachers to best meet the child’s behavioral needs including anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, and other behaviors that may affect a child’s success at school and home.
What drew you to the Family Health Clinic?
I was drawn to the Family Health Clinic because of the incredible reputation it has in serving members of our community. The level of character our team members have combined with the commitment and genuine care they show for their patients matches large healthcare systems. Also with Purdue’s backing, we have access to a wealth of information. The Family Health Clinic continues to grow and add services as they see the need which is also very impressive to me.
What is your favorite part of working at the Family Health Clinic?
As a new team member, my favorite part has been learning what each person’s role is, and their own personal histories and experience. I cannot wait, however, to get into the schools when they open next week and get to know the children. I’m positive once I start seeing kids that will be my favorite part!
Why do you think the Family Health Clinic is important in the local community?
Because the Family Health Clinic can serve all of us. Acceptance to quality care is not tied to finances, the type of insurance you have, if you speak a certain language, or if you have pre-existing conditions. We have an incredible Behavioral Health program that provides both medication management and therapy, which is rare. Our brain is just another part of our body and treatment should be as accessible as treatment for medical needs.
Is there anything else you want to share about yourself? (Hobbies, family life, etc.)
I am a proud and busy parent of 4 children, and their ages range from 9 months through 18 years. I am a former foster parent and adoptive parent, which may help explain the wide age range of my children! My home life includes being a taxi driver to horseback riding lessons, FFA meetings, plant groups, and other interests my kids have. We also love impromptu road trips to our favorite places including Lake Michigan, Chicago, and Kentucky to get away. My extended family is also local, so we spend a lot of time with my parents, sibling, and nieces.
Missy, we are so happy to have you as part of the Family Health Clinic!
