Hear From Our Nurse Practitioners | NP Week 2018

By The Family Health Clinic Team

To celebrate National Nurse Practitioners Week (November 11-17), we wanted to highlight our great Nurse Practitioners by asking them fun questions about their position. Here’s what we asked everyone:

  • What’s one thing about being a Nurse Practitioner (NP) that you don’t think most people know?
  • What are some of your favorite parts of being a Nurse Practitioner at the Family Health Clinic?
  • What would you tell someone who is interested in becoming a Nurse Practitioner?
  • And, just for fun, we asked – what’s your favorite Thanksgiving dish?

As always, we’re grateful for the hard work and care that each of our Nurse Practitioners display daily. Get to know our NPs better by reading through their responses below! If you want to schedule an appointment with one of them, you can be calling (800) 321-5043!

Janet Allbaugh

Family Nurse Practitioner

One thing about being a Nurse Practitioner (NP) that most people don’t know is… We provide Primary Care for many patients without the need for a Primary Care Doctor

Favorite parts of being a NP at the Family Health Clinic: I love taking care of people of all ages.  I love working in the community I live in. I love being able to be Primary Care Provider and caring for all aspects of their lives helping them achieve the best health they are capable of.

I’d tell someone interested in becoming a NP… It’s not an easy position, but it is worth every minute.  You will laugh with your patients and cry with them too. You will learn things about yourself through learning about others.  The learning never stops and you never know what age your next patient is going to be; love that.

Rosanne Griggs

Family Nurse Practitioner

One thing about being a Nurse Practitioner (NP) that most people don’t know is… NP’s can work much more independently in a clinical setting than can physicians since we are also nurses and can get VS, give meds, injections, breathing treatments etc. if the need arises.

Favorite parts of being a NP at the Family Health Clinic: The family atmosphere in the clinic

I’d tell someone interested in becoming a NP… Why do you want to be a Nurse Practitioner?  I would describe the role. I have found that many RN’s today don’t really want to become NP’s they just want to get out of the hospital.

Favorite parts of being a NP at the Family Health Clinic: Being involved with treating the whole person- getting to spend time in a visit to provide education, examine social needs, etc. not just providing medical care.

I’d tell someone interested in becoming a NP… It is a rewarding occupation that is compatible with family life.

One thing about being a Nurse Practitioner (NP) that most people don’t know is… Our training is different than a physician assistant.

Favorite parts of being a NP at the Family Health Clinic: I really like the people in the community and my co-workers. I like being able to spend time with our patients rather than pushing them through like on an assembly line that they have experienced in other settings.
